The Day we Met!

Winchester was 2 weeks old in November 2001 when we travelled to Ottawa to meet with Susan Howe and look at her litter of Butterscotch Gordon Setters.
Although all the puppies were adorable, Bill and I both focused in on "orange boy" and quickly agreed, he was the guy for us.

To say Winchester had a "high gear personality" is putting it mildly and we soon realized this boy needs to be kept busy both mentally and physically.
His intelligence, enthusiasm and over the top food drive make him highly trainable and so much fun.

We are now addicted to working at a variety of dog sports together and this page serves as a diary of our accomplishments to date.

Champion (CH) - May 17, 2003

Winchester earned the CKC Conformation title "Champion" (CH) with thanks to Keri Chard-Savage who is pictured above, along with the judge who awarded him the final points required to complete his title. Keri is the breeder of Chester's sire, and is credited for both expertly handling him in the show ring, and keeping him groomed to perfection.

Canine Good Neighbor (CGN) - Sept. 18, 2004

The test was sponsored by "Dogsmart" and the above photo shows the group of dogs
who were awarded the CKC CGN title on that day.

FLYBALL

Flyball Champion (FbCH)

Flyball Master Excellent (FMX)

August 2007 - FLYBALL MASTER EXCELLENT !!!!

Winchester began racing on Roberta Harrison's flyball team "4 on the Floor" in July, 2004.
He loves the game and plays with drive and strong work ethic. Partnering with Chester in flyball has been the most fun I've ever had working with a dog - we love flyball!

(Winchester is currently ranked 3rd top Gordon Setter in North America (based on points achieved) and the only Canadian Gordon Setter racing in the sport.

Obedience Title (CD - Companion Dog)

This title was accomplished in August 2004. With each of the 3 qualifying legs required to earn the CD title, Winchester placed high in his class and was proudly awarded a blue rosette each time.
At the Gordon Setter Club of America's National Specialty show in Ohio, October 2005, Winchester entered an AKC obedience trial for the first time.
He took 1st place in his class and earned one leg towards his AKC title.

Future obedience goals - we are currently working on the next CKC level, CDX (Companion Dog Excellent).

Back from Cleveland where we were entered in obedience trials at both the MidWest Specialty and the GSCA National. In spite of a sneezing fit while heeling and a rocket recall causing him to skid 3 feet on the ballroom carpet, Winchester took home 2 first place Novice A ribbons and a new title!
He is now a Can/Am CD!
 Rally Obedience

In June 2005 Winchester earned the title "RN" or more specifically "RNMCL" for passing 3 rally trials.
The "MCL" refers to "Magna Cum Lada" and is added" by the Canadian Assoc. of Rally Obedience to recognize any dog whose scores through all 3 tests averaged between 190 to 200 /200.
Nice job Winchester!

(Winchester holds the honor of being the 1st Gordon Setter to earn a RN title in Canada)

Chester relaxing at home with his rally obedience qualifying ribbons.
At the Gordon Setter Club of America's National Specialty show in Cleveland last October, Winchester entered an AKC Rally trial for the first time. He passed with the second highest score in his class.

We just returned from the GSCA National in Cleveland where Winchester entered his second AKC rally trial.
His score was a perfect 100/100, earning him 1st place and the second leg required toward his AKC Rally title.

Aug/07 update - Winchester entered his 3rd AKC rally trial, and scoring 98/100 now has his Am. Rally Title.

Following weekend - Winchester entered 2 CKC Rally Obedience trials, passed both and only needs one more leg for that title.
 Other Achievements .....
Winchester's skills and "good looks" have entertained crowds at such events as the Kettleby Fall Fair, the Markham Fall Fair and Polo for Heart. In June 2006 he even appeared on a Toronto morning show "Breakfast Television" where he'd been recruited to do tricks advertising a local dog fair "Woofstock" and promoting their "Canine Idol" contest.

We've done doggy demos showcasing flyball, obedience, agility and tricks with both "4 on The Floor" and the "Dogsmart Performing Dogs" team.
We have enjoyed every minute of it!

The 2005 Ontario Rescue directory which was placed in all shelters, Veterinary offices etc. across Ontario, featured our prize winning photograph of Winchester on it's cover!
